I talked to my cats about being my minions, but they looked disgusted at the very idea of it. Oh well. :-)

Well, in my limited experience a minion is here to do your bidding.

A familiar is more of a spiritual equal, a guardian of one's heart, a guide.

A minion would never, ever tell you that you are skirting stupid git land, while your familiar may sigh and roll her eyes at you.

What ked'a said. I think of minions as something evil dictators have, like henchmen. Though I don't consider myself an evil dictator, and have no such aspirations. Probably I just like the word, minions.
